Asian Congregational Support

Asian Congregational Support (part of the Racial Ethnic and Women’s Ministries/Presbyterian Women program area) works with the Asian constituencies to assist with issues related to Asian American ministries, to develop resources for leadership development, to help in new church development projects, to consult with issues in church redevelopment, to facilitate leadership training conferences and to provide staff service to the Southeast Asian Advisory Committee. The office also cooperates with other General Assembly program areas, offices and middle governing bodies.
The Advisory Committee on Southeast Asian Ministries was established in late 1988 and had its first meeting in 1989. Since that time many churches have been developed as well as many Southeast Asian congregational organizations.
The purpose of the Committee is to assist the General Assembly to develop denominational strategies to help governing bodies and appropriate committees in relating to the Southeast Asian groups.

Meet the Rev. Mei-Hui Chen Lai
The Rev. Mei-Hui Chen Lai is the Associate for Asian Congregational Support. This ministry seeks to connect, equip and inspire Asian American Presbyterians in evangelism, mission, and leadership. Prior to serving on the staff of the General Assembly Mission Council, the Rev. Chen Lai most recently served in resource development at Yushan Theological College and Seminary in Taiwan. The Rev. Chen Lai also served as the pastor of Seattle First Taiwanese Presbyterian Church and senior pastor of Taiwan Presbyterian Church of Greater Chicago. Under her leadership, the church became a chartered congregation in the Presbytery of Chicago. The Rev. Chen Lai also has a background in funds development. She is a minister member of Seattle Presbytery, and she has served in the General Assembly offices of the Presbyterian Church in Taiwan.
