Trusting in Christ, almost eighty years ago Rabun Gap Presbyterian Church was founded as a mission of Athens Presbytery in the mountains of northeast Georgia. In the early years Methodists and Presbyterians worshiped jointly, before Presbyterians began to worship at Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School. In the early 1990s a church was built.

In the midst of majestic mountains and lush green gaps the Rabun Gap congregation has faithfully served this community. They have shared successes, pulled together in times of need, and cared for one another.

The living water of God’s word and work has streamed forth from Rabun Gap Presbyterian Church and drawn people to join together to serve God in the larger community and the world. In 2008 the church experienced 34 percent growth in membership as well as record giving. Weekly attendance surpasses the total of its membership of ninety-three almost every Sunday. Seating and parking are becoming a welcome challenge.

With the economy worsening at the end of 2008, members of Rabun Gap partnered with the local Board of Realtors to underwrite the cost and to host, unload, sort, and distribute food for needy families during every month in 2009. Up to 15,000 pounds of food are distributed monthly to as many as four hundred families in need. At these monthly food distributions in the church parking lot, every volunteer and recipient is treated to a fresh, hot bowl of the pastor’s special cheese grits. Feeding the body, feeding the soul, loving God, and loving their neighbor—welcome to Rabun Gap Presbyterian Church!

Rabun Gap Presbyterian Church is one of the 57 congregations of Northeast Georgia Presbytery, which has 8,932 members.
