Traditionally the members were coffee producers, but with only one coffee harvest a year, it is very difficult to survive. Having the fruit trees with several harvests a year and three varieties of fruits, allows them to have a more consistent income.
They have chosen avocado, lime, and zapote because these grow well in the area, are easiest to produce and sell, works well with the coffee, and provides shade.
