Movement of Haitian-Dominican Women (MUDHA) water projects
Batey Palmarejo: This community was once at the mercy of the water trucks that would come into town and fill up their barrels of water. There was never enough to go around and the trucks were too few for this community of 1,500 families. Now, “thanks to SDOP, MUDHA and God we have water everyday” says resident Franci Mies. According to another community member, Yilver Perez, they previously had to walk over a kilometer for water and are thrilled that they now have it in their homes.
Batey Altagracia: This community is just about ready to break ground on their new water system. The community has come together around this project and even before construction has begun, they are already collecting funds to make sure that the project will be self-sustainable. They have divided into committees and worked with the engineers to design the best system for their community. Ground breaking took place February 2nd, the system is almost complete. The engineer has been so impressed with this community that he gived his service in the building of a sanitation system, SDOP provided additional funds.
