“Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” — Luke 23:42

Prayer after Communion

A prayer is offered thanking God for the gift of Christ in the sacrament, and asking for God’s grace and strength to be faithful disciples.

Bless the Lord, O my soul;
and all that is within me,
bless God’s holy name!
Bless the Lord, O my soul,
and forget not all God’s benefits.

Ps. 103:1-2

Loving God, we thank you
that you have fed us in this sacrament,
united us with Christ,
and given us a foretaste of the heavenly banquet
in your eternal realm.

Send us out in the power of your Spirit
to live and work to your praise and glory,
for the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Excerpt from Worshiping God Together: A Guide for Children and Their Parents:

When everyone has shared the bread and cup, we thank God for feeding us in this holy meal. We pray that this meal with Jesus will help us to grow in faith and make us strong to love and serve God and neighbors.

Directory for Worship

When all have communed and the remaining elements have been placed on the Table, the one presiding leads the people in prayer, thanking God for the gift of Christ in the Sacrament, asking for God’s grace to fulfill the pledges made by the people in the Supper, and making supplication for the coming of the promised Kingdom. The congregation sings a psalm, canticle, hymn, spiritual, or spiritual song.
