Mission Program Grants
Dear Colleagues,
The grants our office offers to establish 1001 New Worshiping Communities have been revised, to better serve you —our constituents.
The changes we’re making, two years into the movement, are based on what we’ve learned from mid-council, fellow staff, elected partners and leaders of these new worshiping communities.
These processes are meant to encourage local accountability, reward risk taking and innovative thinking— and enable flexibility for the types of ministry being considered for assistance.
The New Worshiping Communities “Seed Grant” still provides $7,500 to help start a 1001 community, but now it is for the first year of ministry, rather than six months.
After that first year the ministry can apply for an additional $25,000 “Investment Grant” for the next 18 months, followed by the possibility of a $25,000 “Growth Grant.”
Both the “Investment” and “Growth” grant require dollar matching from a mid-council, congregation or in kind support.
All new worshiping community leaders are still eligible to apply for a Health Insurance Grant, worth $1,500 per year—twice renewable.
Mission Program Grants also provides grants to presbyteries seeking continual congregational transformation— and the Sam & Helen R. Walton Award, given every March, to excellent new worshiping communities to help with capital expenses.
Blessings,

About Mission Program Grants
Jesus Christ commands his disciples to go into the world, preaching the good news and living a life that exhibits love for God, neighbor and self (Matthew 28:19-20). Mission Program Grants are made available to congregations and presbyteries that are seeking to respond to this commandment by organizing new worshiping communities and supporting presbyteries in their work of continually transforming existing congregations.
The purpose of the Office of Mission Program Grants, in conjunction with the Mission Development Resources Committee, is to respond faithfully to the grant needs of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).
