A letter from Kay Day in Malawi

December 7, 2012

Dear Family and Friends,

Please forgive my lack of communication. I know you have been praying for me without specific information about what is happening. Thank you for the prayer support. I have felt it. This has been a busy and stressful time and I have not been good about communicating all of that to anyone. I hope you will understand my weakness in this area.

Let me update you about what I know as of now. I will be returning to the States on Dec. 16 (leaving here the 15th) and am taking a month’s vacation over the Christmas holidays, a time to refresh and see family and friends. Then I will enter into a period of discerning with the PC(USA) about the next position I will take. This will allow time for debriefing, healing and refocusing so that I am best prepared for a new assignment, able to give my fullest and my best to what God has next for me. My hope is that it will be in Africa, but I am open to God’s leading, even in the States. Please pray with me for God’s clear voice about the next move.

I have sold my furnishings and my car and am in the process of packing and saying farewell. Here farewells are formal occasions and absolutely essential.  This is difficult under the circumstances. This weekend is the time of farewells. Yesterday the Synod had theirs. It was awkward, but we did it. Today Chigodi and the Partnership Committee are hosting farewells, in the morning at Chigodi and the evening with the Partnership friends. These will be hard because these are my friends and close colleagues. On Sunday I bid farewell to the Limbe congregation, people I have served and have come to love. Thursday my sons and families come to help me finish packing and for us to have a final family time together on Friday before I leave on Saturday.

Pittsburgh will be my home base while I am in the States, since that is where family is. I hope to see many of you while I am there. I promise to keep you posted on developments as they happen. Please continue to keep me in your prayers, as you have been. Painful as this is, I know that God is still in control and that he has a plan and a place for me. He has sustained me with his grace, his peace and his strength this past month and I trust him for his wisdom and his direction for the future. Thank you for standing with me in all of this.

All my love,

Kay (Cathie to the family)
