The Rev. Melanie Mitchell and the Rev. Osmundo Ponce, the two PC(USA) mission workers in Spain.

February – Eastminster Presbytery (in Ohio) welcomed Levante Presbytery (Spain) to share in their mission.

May-June – Bryce and Phyllis traveled to Spain and Portugal with the Rev. Jon Chapman, the new PC(USA) area coordinator for Europe. Jon met with Spanish Evangelical Church leaders and attended the bi-annual synod meeting and the “Day of the Church Celebration” of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Portugal.

August – The Rev. Fulton Lytle, retired PC(USA) pastor in San Gabriel Presbytery, did a one-month pulpit supply at St. Andrews Church of Scotland in Gibraltar.

September – The Rev. Alfredo Abad Heras (General Secretary of the Spanish Evangelical Church) came to the United States as an international peacemaker for the Presbyterian Peacemaking Program and visited Eastminster Presbytery (Ohio), Sacramento Presbytery (California), and Northern Waters Presbytery (Minnesota and Wisconsin).

October-November – Bryce and Phyllis traveled again to Spain and Portugal. They were involved in the following activities:

  1. Attended the bi-annual synod meeting of the Spanish Evangelical Church meeting in El Escorial, near Madrid.
  2. They met with all our Presbyterian missionaries in Spain. The Revs. Edgar and Donna Moros, who are retiring from mission service The Rev. Melanie Mitchell, who serves as a local church pastor in the Spanish Evangelical Church in Madrid and also teaches at a Catholic University in Madrid. Rev. Dr. Osmundo Ponce who had been serving in Central America under the PC(USA). He is head of the new theological extension program of the United Evangelical Theological Seminary (SEUT) that started in November 2007.
  3. Worked with Catalunya Presbytery (Barcelona) to develop a health proposal on dementia to be run out of their Bet-San Retirement Center.
  4. Worked with the Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Portugal to develop a personnel request for a Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) missionary from Brazil to serve in Portugal for two five-year terms.

Plans for 2008

  1. Work with Dr. David Valente, the general secretary of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Portugal, as he prepares to be a representative to the PC(USA) General Assembly in June, 2008, in San Jose, California.
  2. Work with the Rev. Alfredo Abad Heras, general secretary of the Spanish Evangelical Church as they choose and send a representative to attend the PC(USA) General Assembly in June, 2008, in San Jose, California.
  3. Find a partner PC(USA) Presbytery for Catalyuna Presbytery, in Barcelona, Spain. Make a trip with a team to Spain to explore the potential partnership.

We continue to enjoy our four adult children and their families. Our eleven grandchildren (ages 1-15 years) are the joy of our lives.

May God bless you during this Advent season and the coming New Year (2008)!.

Thank you for keeping in touch.
