About Pix Mahler's ministry
After serving as a Hunger Action Enabler (HAE) for 14 years in the Presbytery of the Peaks (Virginia), Pix Mahler was appointed partnership facilitator for Haiti. The transition from HAE to partnership facilitator was a natural one. As HAE, Pix promoted and interpreted the Presbytery of the Peaks’ relationship with the Episcopal Diocese of Haiti, the PC(USA)’s partner in Haiti. She now does the same for all churches and middle governing bodies interested in doing ministry in Haiti. She has brought to her new tasks a deep knowledge and long experience of how the PC(USA) does mission in partnership.

Pix serves God’s mission by nurturing relationships between Presbyterians in the United States and various ministries of the Episcopal Diocese of Haiti. She sees her work as being a channel of communication between the PC(USA) and the Diocese in Haiti. “I help people in the United States discover what gifts they may have that are applicable to ministry with our partners,” she says.

Country context
Haiti became an independent country in the early 19th century when a slave revolt overthrew the French colonial government. It has had a turbulent history marked by military dictatorships, corruption and violence.  The 2010 earthquake was a devastating blow to Haiti, which was already the Western Hemisphere’s poorest country. The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) through its disaster assistance ministry arrived quickly to help with recovery efforts and will continue to help the country rebuild. The PC(USA) has been involved in Haiti for many years, working in health, hunger and education ministries.

About Pix Mahler
Members of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Lynchburg, Virginia, where Pix is a member, nurtured her spiritual growth and ordained her to the offices of deacon and elder. On the eve of her appointment as a mission co-worker, Pix said, “My faith is continuing to deepen. I feel rooted. I am even able to verbalize this to strangers! I try to live my faith so that I can say what I believe and live my beliefs at the same time. I don’t always achieve this, of course, but I give it a running shot.”

Pix has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Maryville College in Maryville, Tennessee.
