Osmundo Ponce

Osmundo ended mission service with the PC(USA) in 2011.

Osmundo Ponce has been under appointment as a mission co-worker with the PC(USA) since 1989. His most recent assignment began in April 2007, when he was invited by the Evangelical Church of Spain and the Reformed Episcopal Church of Spain to teach at the Seminario Evangelico Unido de Teologia (SEUT) in Madrid.

From 1989 until March of 2007, Osmundo was under a joint appointment with his former wife, Ana Ligia Ponce. From 1999 to 2007, they served with the Christian Commission for Development (CCD) in Honduras. Osmundo was dean and taught pastoral studies at the Comunidad Teologica de Honduras (CETH), which was founded by the CCD and the Christian Reformed Church of Honduras.

From 1989 until moving to Honduras in 1999 Osmundo and Ana Ligia served the Presbyterian Church of Colombia. They were professors of biblical studies at the Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Barranquilla.

Osmundo received teachers training at Mazateco College in Guatemala. He then graduated from the Presbyterian Evangelical Seminary of Guatemala with a B.A. in theology. He studied at the Latin America Biblical Seminary before becoming a professor at the Evangelical Presbyterian Seminary and the Mariano Galvex University in Guatemala. He was the executive secretary of Literacy and Literature Program (ALFALIT), a Protestant literacy program in Latin America for two years before spending six years as the organization’s director of education and literature. He earned another bachelor’s degree from the National University of Costa Rica.

Osmundo is a minister of the Word and Sacrament ordained by the Presbyterian Church of Guatemala. He is the father of two adult sons.
