Prayer Requests from Ingrid Reneau in Sudan

February 2012

1. I'm organizing a seminar at Across with Profs Mary Bediako, Ben Quarshie and Enestina from ACI-Akropong-Ghana (Akrofi-Christaller Institute of Theology, Mission and Culture). As Across works in a primal religious worldview context, we will have an educative dialogue with ACI as they are leaders in current theological discourse on African Christianity and culture, primal religion, and mother-tongue Scripture. The intent is that Across staff will be better equipped to engage the South Sudanese cultures in which they work with the power of the gospel to save, transform and "develop" lives. We need prayer for this one-day seminar being held on March 26 and its impact in the lives and work of Across staff, especially its leadership team and Board members, and we need prayer that Board members will join us for this seminar.

2. I would truly like to have Revs. Gideon Tai, Presbyterian Church of Sudan (PCOS) General Secretary; John Phillip Omot, Regional Peace and Justice Officer (PCOS); and Tut Kony, Sudan Presbyterian Evangelical Church General Secretary, at this seminar, but I have no idea whether they have the means to come, so we can pray about that too.

3. Praise and thanks to Jah [Jehovah] for the completion of the Big Book early literacy method workshop! Continued praise and thanks to Jah for the reception of the method by the YTTC English language tutor and our Boma and Adol teacher trainers; all agree to try out the method in upcoming trainings. Thanks for prayers for the outcome, and for our return visit to the Ministry of Education in Juba to discuss this method being included in the official nationwide teacher training curricula.

4. I've begun my first block of course work at ACI—a PC(USA) partner organization I think it is—toward an M.A. in Mission, Theology and Culture, focusing on South Sudanese cattle camp culture. Thanks for praying for me to complete the work and do well; it’s been a long time since I was the student, seated on the other side of the classroom. My class consists of me and about 15 (all male) pastors of the Pentecostal Church of Ghana; this is because I was to start course work last August, but when mom was hospitalized, I'd stayed in the U.S. to see about her, and so missed starting then, and so had to postpone until now. This option of the M.A. is the Pentecostal Studies Option, specifically designed for the Pentecostal Church. So, all is well...and even more so, thanks to your prayers for me, as ever.

5.  The travel diary is now with the printers—Hallelu JAH! Praise and thanks to Jah for its completion...and for those who gave to assist us in getting in printed.  Excellent production is what we want, and then of course pray that it will sell way beyond our expectations to raise much funds for other projects, especially toward other literacy projects like Big Books for the South Sudanese cultural contexts.

6.  Continued prayers for Jah's intervention in Sudan's war against the Nuba people! And for the Nuba people to be miraculously saved from any more devastation.

7. Continued prayers for successful peace initiatives with/in the leaders and chiefs of the "warring" tribes of Jonglei, and for a complete stop of all such conflicts and killings in all of Jonglei State and in all other states too, like Lakes states where insecurity continues due to cattle camp raiding

8. Praise and thank Jah to the highest, too, for the girls dorm building now going up on YTTC campus, thanks to Presbyterian Women's Birthday Grant funds!! This will make a tremendous difference in girls attending YTTC.

In the name of Christ Jesus as our richest grace ever abounding with/in us, Amen.

Ingrid

Editor's notes:

ACI, the Akrofi-Christaller Institute of Theology, Mission and Culture, is a scholarly institution established by the Presbyterian Church of Ghana to serve the wider Christian community in Ghana and Africa.

YTTC is an institution established by Across in 2002 to address the issue of shortage of teachers for basic education in South Sudan. The goal is “to improve the quality of education for the church and the community as a whole.”
