Jeannene Wiseman served in Guatemala with the Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Guatemala (IENPG). She is available to speak as her schedule permits. Email her to extend an invitation to speak with your congregation or organization.
David and Jeannene Wiseman were appointed in July 2005 to serve in Guatemala with the National Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Guatemala (IENPG). David will work with delegations and mission teams, organizing, receiving and hosting the visits from PC(USA) church members who come to Guatemala to work with and learn from their partner churches. At the time of this writing (July 2005) Jeannene’s service has not yet been defined.
In May of 2004, after 26 years as pastor and head of staff of a large Presbyterian church, David Wiseman decided to take a leap of faith. He resigned. For the next year, he retreated into contemplative silence at a monastery in Kentucky, he received mediation training from the Mennonites, he completed a week of interim ministry education and he fulfilled a long-held desire to immerse himself in the Spanish language in Guatemala.
“It wasn’t clear where all this was leading,” writes David of this time, “but this fertile time has given my soul a chance to catch up with myself. I have been able to attune my inner ear to hearing a call to ministry in a more global context, where accents are different from my own and where reading of the gospel is from a different slant.”
The decision to serve in Guatemala was not just David’s.Jeannene writes, “At my age, I am aware of life’s brevity. I have always had a desire to live among people who are more diverse from my own experiences and origins, and the call to an international ministry is something David and I share. We have gifts to bring to Christians from our own culture and from other cultures, and we desire to receive from other Christians the gift of their multicultural experiences and perspectives.”
David was pastor and head of staff of Cary Presbyterian Church in Cary, North Carolina, from 1978 to 2004. Jeannene has been self-employed since 1985 as a spiritual director, retreat leader and enneagram educator. Recently, she worked part-time for several years as a facilitator for pastoral care classes for Duke University Divinity School.
David has a bachelor’s degree in English from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and an M.Div. from Princeton Theological Seminary. Jeannene holds a Bachelor of Science in child development and elementary education from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, and an M.Div. from Princeton Theological Seminary in Princeton, New Jersey.
The Wisemans are the parents of two adult children.
