Hi! I am Elizabeth Heyer and I am so excited to share my journey with all of you, but first, a little about myself. I was born and raised in a small town in New Jersey where farm stands outnumber grocery stores and the only light in town is two towns over. I grew up in the church and always considered it my second home. My mom was clerk of session for several years so I always seemed to spend more time at the church than at my house but it was a good place to be. As I grew up I became more and more involved with the church. I was a youth deacon, a Sunday school teacher, a youth delegate to Synod, and I got to travel to Purdue University for Triennium.

I have my Bachelor’s in Religion and my Master’s in Humanities from Wilson College in Chambersburg, PA. Wilson is a small women’s college with a ton of heart. My school years were spent taking classes, working at the horse stables, and joining every club I could. I participated in the Hunt Seat Team, the Environmental Club, Wilson College Government Association, and Campus Activities Board. As a graduate student I was the liaison between the student government and the Alumnae Association. I helped to gather donations for our Annual Fund and now sit on the Alumna Association Board.

My summers are spent at home, volunteering at the church my mother is currently serving in. From teaching vacation bible school to serving as a leader for our mission trips, I am always involved at the church. Now that I have graduated I am a Sunday school teacher, deacon, and general volunteer for anything that needs done.

I have always loved to help other people and making people’s lives better. In my spare time I love to read, snuggle with my dog, and beat my mom at Scrabble…and don’t let here tell you otherwise. I will miss all the things I leave behind this year but I look forward to all the experiences and friends I can add to my life. The YAV program came to my attention during a time when it was just where I needed to direct my life. I am excited for this next step in my life and look forward to sharing it with all of you!
