“Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” — Luke 23:42

Gordon Roberts Hospital

By Pam Snyder

The Welsh Presbyterian Church started Gordon Roberts Hospital in 1929, naming it after Dr. Gordon Roberts, a missionary. The facility is a nonprofit hospital that provides many charitable services to the poor, while allowing payment in installments for those who can pay. The goal is to serve the rich and the poor with no discrimination. Hospital management feels they have been sent there to fulfill the purpose of what Christ has for each of us—to serve people. Their motto is “service to man is service to God.” Their administrator stated, “We are unconsciously spreading the gospel where we are and we are proud to have been chosen to serve those in need and are grateful to just get a hug, a smile or a thank you in return.” They predominantly treat tropical diseases including malaria and typhoid and also meningitis, strep and tuberculosis, however they see cancer cases increasing. They have asked us to pray for them and to do what we can do assist them in their service. I’m so amazed at how dedicated the staff is and how positive they remain with so many unmet needs and improvements.

Pam traveled to India in October 2011 with Presbyterian Women’s Global Exchange.
