Kosovo

According to the U.S. Department of State, Kosovo is legally still part of Serbia and Montenegro, although it remains an international protectorate of the United Nations.

Peace-building among nations is the No. 1 priority in this area after recent times of war. The development of a peace studies program and other peace-building projects are a big challenge for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and its mission partners in Kosovo. In view of past religious tensions theologians need to provide education and interfaith understanding that transcends cultures and denominations.

Kosovo has had a relatively large Roma (Gypsy) minority, but during the war and in recent violent conflicts they became victims of expulsion. Many of them are now living in refugee camps in Macedonia. The PC(USA) encourages our partners to function as a bridge between the Roma and the majority population in Kosovo.
