Malaysian churches unite to mark a national Jubilee prayer day, holding major prayer meetings on Sept 16, 2012, when the country begins celebrating the 50th anniversary of its political federation and looks toward a general election before June 2013.

Background

Malaysia is a diverse country, both ethnically and religiously. Most of the population is ethnic Malay and mostly Muslim, while a third of the population is ethnic Chinese, of whom a large minority is Christian.

The PC(USA) works in Malaysia through mission personnel and in cooperation with its church partner, the Presbyterian Church in Malaysia. This church grew out of the Presbyterian Church of Singapore about 25 years ago. It relates to two seminaries, the interdenominational Malaysian Theological Seminary and the Malaysian Bible Seminary, which primarily serve the church’s ethnic Chinese churches.
