Letter from Glen and Carol Hallead in Ghana

November 6, 2007

Dear Faithful Supporters of Mission,

Mission Challenge ’07 has come to an end. Well over 140 Presbyteries were visited by PC(USA) missionaries, who shared the good news stories of what we are doing in mission around the world. The number one question that remains in the minds of people who were moved by that experience is: “How do we make sure that this good work continues?” The answer is an easy one. Support PC(USA) mission.

The following is a primer on supporting PC(USA) mission in general and the Hallead family in particular. The first question that needs to be answered is, “Are you providing support as an individual or as a church?”

For individuals

Online - To give online, go to the simplified giving Web site. Here, it is possible to give undesignated support to all missionaries or to designate funds to support missionaries in one of seven regions of the world. It’s also possible to designate support to any individual PC(USA) missionary by going to the missionary’s home page on the Mission Connections Web site. Of course, we also have a home page on the Mission Connections site. Our account number is E200353.

By phone – To contribute via credit card, call (502) 569-8658.

Through the mail - If individuals would like to send a check at any time, they may send it to:

Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)
Individual Remittance Processing
P.O. Box 643700
Pittsburgh, PA  15264-3700

To designate to a specific missionary, write the missionary’s name and account number on the subject line of the check. The account number is available online at the simplified mission giving Web site. Click on “Look up the number of a specific mission worker.”  For the Halleads that would be “Glen and Carol Hallead E200353.”

For churches

We are asking churches to give generously to support Presbyterian missionaries. It’s important for missionaries to feel connected to churches, and vice versa.  Churches may give either through the accounts set up for Mission Challenge (see above) or they can give through Directed Mission Support (DMS).

The 2007/2008 Directed Mission Support catalogue can still be used to make DMS commitments and contributions for 2008. Order a copy from Presbyterian Distribution Service at (800) 524-2612. Ask for PDS #68700-07-050.

Pledge forms and an updated list of the DMS numbers of all missionaries serving in 2008 are available at the Mission Challenge '07 Web site.

DMS is part of Basic Mission Support and directs giving within the unified budget. DMS is usually part of a church budget and is sent through a church’s normal receiving site, usually the presbytery. A letter about DMS and a 2008 DMS pledge form is being sent to all PC(USA) churches in early November. The Halleads’ DMS number is D506405.

In January 2008 a giving catalogue will be sent to all churches. This will include all Extra Commitment Opportunities, DMS, and Mission Initiative giving opportunities. Extra copies of this catalogue will be available in January by calling (800) 524-2612 and requesting PDS # 68700-08-085. Contributions from churches may be sent to their normal receiving site or:

For more information about Presbyterian missionaries

Mission Connections — This is the most complete source of information about Presbyterian missionaries. It contains the home pages of all missionaries, with the exception of 15, who serve in Central Asia, Turkey, India, and Pakistan. As of September 28, 2007, it has 3,934 newsletters and 2,524 photographs dating back to 1999.

Finally, an end-of-the-letter word about end-of-the-year giving. We’ve been working for the past year on a very low-key funding issue that we need to bring to a close this December. We’re in the process of raising just $7,000 more than the current $35,000 in order to make a vehicle available to women in the Presbyterian Church of Congo’s AIDS/Health Ministry. This is a desperate need, and we’d like you to consider a one-time end-of-the-year gift. Gifts from individuals or congregations can be sent to the above addresses. Just write “West Africa Regional Liaison Vehicle E053501” in the memo section.

Also as you build your budget or help make decisions or provide input for your congregation’s mission spending for next year, we hope that you will keep the above possibilities in mind. If you are looking for a way to support our ministry in particular we’d suggest the following projects:

  • E051606 Glen’s Regional Liaison Travel and Office Expense Account. This account pays for the office furniture and equipment, the ink cartridges and paper—everything in addition to travel expenses to Niger, Nigeria, and around Ghana, as well as occasional trips to the United States or elsewhere for meetings.
  • E200353 As explained above, this is for our salary, housing, children’s schooling, and other expenses, as well as getting us back and forth from the field to the United States for mission interpretation.

It is helpful to let us know when and how much is being sent so that we can be sure to acknowledge every gift.

We believe in PC(USA) mission. That’s why were here. And we believe in you, and that’s why we write. Won’t you prayerfully consider your part in this work today? And please receive our heartfelt gratitude for all you do for the Lord, right where you are. Together we are making a difference.

In Christian Faith and Service,

Glen, Carol, Jacob and Caleb Hallead
