Learn about African-American Advisory Committee

The African-American Advisory Committee’s purpose is to provide advice and support to the African American Congregational Support Office on the health, vitality and growth of African-American congregations. They provide leadership in congregations, presbyteries, synods and General Assembly events on issues related to evangelism and church growth. Members serve for a term of three years.

The committee offers support to the African American Congregational Support office by:

  • Providing assistance in designing, developing and implementing strategies in the area of evangelism, new church development and redevelopment.
  • Encouraging the development and growth of congregations, bible studies and fellowships.
  • Identifying and creating resources and training opportunities for lay and ordained leadership.
  • Facilitating communication and cooperation between governing bodies and racial ethnic constituencies.
  • Advocating and promoting an understanding of the linkage between racial ethnic church growth and racial justice.
  • Promoting ecumenical relationships in racial ethnic communities.
