A letter from Kay Day in Malawi

November 2012

Dear Family and Friends,

Where do I begin? I begin with the sure knowledge that God is sovereign in all things. We live in the certainty “that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28).

It is in this context that I share with you changes in my life circumstances but hold the certainty of God’s direction and care. Due to a number of internal situations and communication challenges within Blantyre Synod, in consultation with and with the support of the World Mission staff, I have decided to leave Malawi and to seek reassignment with the PC(USA). Discussions are under way with the PC(USA) about the best reassignment to use the gifts and talents that God has given me of teaching and pastoring. As you might imagine, this has been a painful time of discerning God’s direction for me and for my relationship with the Synod. None of this was in my thinking or plans when I was in the States speaking these past three months. But as our Malawian partner’s leadership has changed, their priorities changed, and therefore positions have changed. That is the reality of life. God knew, even as I was traveling and speaking, and God has plans for my future and for the future of the Synod. I am certain of that because I am certain of God.

Be assured that there will be a handover of plans and projects that have been discussed and worked on over the last few months. God’s work continues, regardless of the personnel on the ground.

I ask for your prayers for wisdom during this time of discernment for the future. I ask for your prayers for strength and peace during this time of packing and saying farewell to a place and a people I love.

Yours in Christ’s love,

Kay
