A letter from Kay Day home from Malawi
January 2013
My grace is sufficient, for my power is made perfect in weakness. 2 Cor. 12:9
Dear Friends and Family,
God’s great grace has been more than sufficient for me in the last four weeks since I returned from Malawi. The day after I returned, I was attacked by a stomach virus that took two weeks to fully shake. That meant that it was the New Year before I felt strong enough to begin to sort through all that I had brought back with me from Malawi. But even in this illness, God’s grace was evident. I really needed to rest for a time, and it took illness to compel me to do so. During that time, I was still able to be with family and friends for the holidays, just not with great energy. I have read several books and watched old movies—actually used the time like vacation, as it was intended. God’s grace was abundant and in my weakness I experienced God’s restoring power.
Last week I was in Louisville with the World Mission staff for a time of discernment. This, too, was filled with God’s grace. The World Mission staff is affirming and extremely helpful in the reassignment process. I am so grateful for their direction. There are several things in play at the moment. In true Presbyterian style, we must wait for “the way to be clear” before anything specific can be communicated, but the hope is that by the end for February we will have a position identified and I will be headed for reassignment in Africa by late spring. The possibilities are exciting. Please pray with me for God’s continued direction in all these plans. God’s grace is evident and in it I am experiencing his restoring power.
In the meantime I will be traveling and speaking for World Mission about what God is doing through the PC(USA) and our partners, specifically in Africa. If your church or a mission group within the church is interested in having me come to speak, please contact me so we can make the necessary arrangements. I would be delighted to have the opportunity to share more of God’s amazing grace in all that is happening. Please pray for me as I set up this program and as I begin to travel. While I enjoy traveling and speaking, it takes planning and God’s grace to make all the connections and get the messages right for each location. I continue to need God’s grace, which is sufficient in all circumstances.
My hope for you is that as you immerse yourself in this New Year you experience God’s grace in abundance, for his grace is sufficient for all the circumstances of our life.
