Carol Dolezal-Ng
Carol ended mission service with the PC(USA) in 2011. She is available to speak as her schedule permits. Email her to extend an invitation to your congregation or organization.
Carol Dolezal-Ng was appointed in January 2008 to serve as development associate for interpretation and support with the Near East School of Theology (NEST). While NEST is in Beirut, Lebanon, Carol works out of her home in California.
One way Carol raises the level of awareness about NEST is by organizing coffee klatches.
Founded by the PC(USA) in the 19th century, NEST trains ministers for Protestant churches in the Middle East and Africa. Carol assists the president of NEST in interpreting the school’s mission and strengthening its support in the United States and around the world. Her position has been funded through gifts to the Mission Initiative: Joining Hearts and Hands.
Carol felt called to interpret the Middle East to Presbyterians after she was a commissioner at the 216th General Assembly of the PC(USA) in 2004. “I quickly found the order of business that raised the most questions was our denomination’s actions regarding the Middle East,” she writes.
Carol helped organized two conferences in the San Francisco Bay area promoting dialogue on the Middle East, and she was one of 100 participants in the Presbyterian Peacemaking Program’s Steps Toward Peace conference held in Bethlehem in the spring of 2006.
During a trip to Lebanon, Carol became friends with NEST’s president, Dr. Mary Mikhael, who helped her discern her call to this ministry.
Carol’s professional background is in public relations and business. She was assistant vice president and manager of the World Savings and Loan Association in Oakland, California, from 1991 to 1996 and a loan office and marketing assistant with Providential Home Income Plan Inc., also in San Francisco, from 1989 to 1991.
Carol has long been active in her church and presbytery. She was ordained as an elder in 1989 and has since served on session three times in her home church, First Presbyterian Church of Oakland, California. Twice she has chaired the Stewardship Committee. In the Presbytery of San Francisco, she has served on many committees and planning teams, including the coordinating council.
Carol is married to Bill Ng, a retired PC(USA) minister, who is resident manager of the Berkeley Presbyterian Mission Homes. Through the international community at BPMH, Carol has come to know brothers and sisters in Christ from all over the world, including Japan, Korea, South Africa, Indonesia, India, China, Mexico, Ecuador, Colombia, Bolivia, Cameroon, Norway and Germany. Her favorite verse from Scripture is Romans 12:12-13: “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with God’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.”
Carol has a B.A. in English from the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa.
