Joe and Kathy Angi

Refugee and Relief Ministries—Hungary

Joe and Kathy Angi worked with the Reformed Church in Hungary’s Refugee Ministry office to develop a ministry that had not existed before. The Refugee Ministry program served refugees in several ways: by supporting the spiritual and community life of people who had lost their homeland; by involving professionals and volunteers from local congregations to minister to the needs of people new to the country; and by developing innovative programs to respond to the needs of refugees working in partnership with the government and NGOs. In addition, Kathy worked closely with a church in Budapest, and Joe worked with support groups for families, and in programs related to drug and alcohol addiction. Prior to their assignment in Hungary, Kathy worked in Croatia, Bosnia and Albania (and elsewhere), training local teachers, pastors, social workers and parents to help children deal with the trauma of war.
