A letter from Susie Frerichs in Frijolillo, San Martin Chalchicuahutla, San Luis Potosí, Mexico
March 1, 2010
Dear All,
Some good news. Thank you for your prayers. This past week Martin’s issue was resolved. Government and religious leaders, pastors from an evangelical pastors association, from the state capital arrived and discussed the issue with both municipal and ejidal leaders. Martin and his family will be housed and financially sustained by the municipal government while his brother, who was the ring leader for the problem, rebuilds his home. Also, the local community is being punished by not receiving any public funds for projects in the community for the rest of the year. This is huge. Above all, leaders at all levels learned about the civil rights of Protestant believers, and I believe this opens the door for many evangelicals in the municipality to now declare freedom from forced payments or participation in religious events directed by the majority. Thank you again for your prayers.
Continue to pray for the situation for brothers in Chiapas. One was killed February 6th and another hospitalized after being shot, macheted, bludgened, etc. The issue is under investigation by state officials there and support is coming in from the General Assembly of the Mexican church and some presbyteries. Pray that the Federal and State governments this year will take charge of these situations. Pray that leaders in rural communities might understand religious freedoms. And pray too that the people of Mexico will know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior ...
Blessings...
Susie
