A letter from Pix Mahler in Virginia

Advent 2010

Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

This my first Mission Connections letter of the new year. Yes, for Christians, the new year has already begun. The season of Advent signals the beginning of a new year and with the new year comes hope, prayer, anticipation and a desire for recommitment to living and walking a straighter path in the manner of our Teacher and Savior, Jesus Christ.

The year 2010 brought unspeakable pain and sadness to our brothers and sisters in Haiti. We have no control over natural disasters — earthquake and hurricanes — but we respond with compassion to those who have suffered and who are continuing to suffer.

We also accompany our sisters and brothers in Haiti as they respond to unnatural disasters — human actions of violence and civil disruption — that bring sadness and loss of sovereignty. Together we can nourish life and hope for a better future.

In the midst of this continuing disruption we lift up a still, small voice of prayer and a plea, “Come quickly, Lord Jesus.”

Let us raise our voices to fill the skies. Let us pray fervently for peace and hope amid the chaos.

In Christ’s service,

Pix Mahler
