Letter from Janelle and Mike McCarty in Ethiopia

May 12, 2008

Dear Friends and Family,

We hope you are doing well and enjoying the springtime! We have now been back in North America for three months. Since coming back we’ve gone up to British Columbia to visit Janelle’s parents, taken up temporary residence with Mike’s parents, welcomed our son, Isaac, into the world, rested a little, and started our mission interpretation assignment.

As part of our responsibility as mission co-workers with PC(USA) we have the joy and responsibility to share with churches in the United States about the work of the Lord in Dembi Dollo. So far, we’ve spoken in 14 different venues. We’ve really realized the depth and breadth of our church family. Also, it seems that in each place someone comes forward to share a tie they have with Ethiopia. We really are interconnected!

We’ve listed below all of the places where we have spoken or will speak. If you missed us, we are really sorry not to have seen you. If you find a church near you, please come and visit us. Contact us or the hosting church for more details.

As we write this, we are resting for a few days in Freemont, Iowa, visiting Mike’s great aunts and second cousins. Carolee is enjoying the church’s nurseries, playgrounds, and Sunday school programs. Isaac is growing and benefiting from mommy’s milk. I, Janelle, have felt that the pace is manageable, but busy. Mike has done a great job taking the lion’s share of the preaching, speaking, and organizing. Both of us love to see how Isaac is responding more and more with smiles and how Carolee is so good at giving Isaac loving kisses. Up to this point, all of our presentations have been accompanied by one of the two sets of grandparents. We appreciate their help with the kids immensely. Please pray for us on Friday as Mike’s parents travel back to Washington with their travel trailer. We will miss their company and their help.

Please look over this list of churches and see if you can’t arrange your schedule to join us somewhere along the way. Also, we would really value your prayers.

May God bless you and be with you,

Janelle, Mike, Carolee and Isaac McCarty
