Northwest Presbytery

A small group of men and women standing in front of a mural, painted with a book with red and blue words.

Inquirers and candidates of Northwest Presbytery gather at the seminary.

Northwest Presbytery in the Synod of Puerto Rico is small in size but has enormous wealth and treasure in its human resources. At present the presbytery has fourteen candidates to ministry: men and women from different walks of life, ages, and backgrounds, called by God to minister to God’s people.

The stories of these candidates’ lives tell where they have been refreshed by the flowing waters of God’s Spirit that push them forward as they engage in everyday life and study at the Evangelical Seminary of Puerto Rico. For some of these men and women, traveling to take courses at the seminary comes after a full day of work, whether it is an outside job or caring for family members or both. It is quite a difficult task, but through God’s power and grace so much can be accomplished successfully.

One of the candidates is waiting for a call from a church, and two will graduate at the next commencement. The rest continue working, studying, and participating in internships at various churches in the presbytery. One of the candidates travels to Mexico every summer to work in a rural area with children in a vacation Bible school. All have felt God’s flowing waters leading their lives.

One of the candidates says, “God, like a skillful artist, prepared the events in my life of service, leading the way to my call to the ordained ministry.” Another candidate, a youth adviser, says that “hope and freshness are witnessed when you can see youth experience the life-changing Spirit of God.”

Northwest Presbytery has 30 churches and 3 missions serving 4,062 members.
