YAV San Antonio
Program Description
The San Antonio program seeks to find God’s will in living authentically as the “church.” This site seeks young adults to serve and learn with the people of San Antonio, to engage in intentional Christian community and personal discipleship, to work with local ministries and agencies and to explore urban, multicultural ministry as a vocation and calling.
Placement Opportunities
Potential sites include service in the areas of:
- Homeless services
- Education
- Children/youth
- Immigrant and refugee services
- Public health
- Social work
Volunteers will serve their work placements approximately 32 hours a week (four days).
Housing
Each volunteer will live in community with three to five other volunteers for the year. The house is selected and provided by DOOR San Antonio.
Intentional Community Aspects
All activities center around both the gifts and the needs of the city. Discussions and book readings cover personal disciplines, immigrant power, racism, community and economics. Volunteers will have multiple levels of community support, the house community of the other volunteers, site supervisors, personal mentors, site coordinator and local board of directors as well as a national board of directors.
Requirements
Age: 20-29
Education: college desirable
Other: applicants should be considering a career in urban ministry.
