RELIGIOUS CONGREGATIONS & MEMBERSHIP STUDY (RCMS, 2010)

This interfaith study reports the number of congregations, members, and total adherents by county and state in the year 2010 for each of 236 religious groups. Learn more about the religious landscape where your congregation is located.

RCMS data for an individual county, state, or metro area and the change between 2000 and 2010 are available free at the ARDA (Association of Religion Data Archives). Click on 2010 U.S. Congregational Membership Report.

2010 data will be available from the Association of Statisticians of American Religious Bodies later this summer.

The 2000 data are available for purchase through the Glenmary Research Center. The RCMS data package comes with the book Religious Congregations & Membership in the United States: 2000, a CD-ROM containing all data for 2000 (as well as 1952, 1971, 1980, and 1990), and a wall map showing the distribution of major religious families across the United States.
