A letter from Amy Davisson Galetzka in Thailand

March 2012

Dear Friends and Family,

I hope that you have all had a wonderful 2012 so far! I spent January visiting friends, supporters, churches and the nonprofit that accepts donations for much of the work with people from Thailand and Burma with which I am involved. February and March have been in Thailand. I work with an amazing group of volunteers who are very dedicated.

Here are some work highlights from this year (and last year) so far:
2011
Visits to the United States. Thanks so much to all of you I was able to visit with co-workers last summer. I am always so amazed and humbled at the generosity, encouragement, friendship and support from so many people and churches. A special thank you to those who organized meetings and hosted me and others during the summer.  I do hope to do some visiting November 2012 to January 2013 in the U.S., so please let me know if you or your church would like to plan a time for a get-together!

2012, January – March
Coordinating support of medical and other care for displaced people from Burma.
Run for Relief for Burma. We organized a run this year in Chiang Mai to help raise awareness and support for people in Burma.
Run for Relief is more than a fun run. It's a worldwide movement to help provide life-saving relief to more than a million people in Burma who are hiding in fear from their own government. For a million villagers in Burma, running is not a choice.

Global Day of Prayer for Burma service- children’s choir from local youth hostel.

Global Day of Prayer for Burma. Held every 2nd Sunday of March, we ask people around the world to pray that day and throughout the year for physical and spiritual freedom for people in Burma.

Prayer Requests and a Resource:
Requests
– For Thailand—for recovery from the flooding last year through early 2012 (lasting many months for a large number of people)
– For Burma and other countries in the region—good leaders, physical and spiritual freedom, a stop to any fighting, recognition for and sincere and just solutions for those who have been oppressed
– Godly Wisdom, Love, Joy and good communication in all of my relationships

Resource
Burma Prayer Almanac. If any of you would like prayer materials focused on Burma, I have a prayer almanac available, with topics for each week of one year. Let me know and I would be happy to send one.

Family and Friends:

Mom (Beth) and I

– My mother went through a difficult time with lung cancer last year—a surgery and chemotherapy—but now has no sign of any cancer remaining. Our family really appreciates those of you who prayed for her and would appreciate prayers that it would not return. We are thankful for good medical care and I was so blessed by my mom’s joyful and faithful attitude through a really difficult time. She is an amazing example to me.
– My husband continues to work as a geologist and has many exciting adventures doing earthquake research that we would love to share when (we hope!) we can see you in person the next time.

Thankful, and looking forward:
– Thank you for your love and support. As I reflect on the past three months, I see the richness and beauty in the relationships that God has given me—whether the people are close to me geographically or are many days travel away.

– This year, in addition to my regular work, I am hoping to be involved in helping start a nonprofit that could enable some current and future volunteers to be more sustainable longer term in their roles here, as well as give further options for donors to support ongoing projects to come alongside people from Thailand, Burma and the region.

*** I’m thankful for the gift of a new life that God has given my husband and me (a baby, due in early October!) and I can’t wait to introduce him or her to the wonderful friends and family that we have and this joyful life we’ve been blessed with. I plan to take a maternity leave October to December 2012 and return to ministry after that time.

Please keep in touch and I’ll try to do the same.

God Bless you,
Amy

Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good.
His love endures forever.
He remembered us in our low estate
His love endures forever.
and freed us from our enemies.
His love endures forever.
He gives food to every creature.
His love endures forever.
Give thanks to the God of heaven.
His love endures forever.
