A letter from Amy Davisson Galetzka in Thailand
October 2010
Dear Friends,
As I reflect on this past year, God’s faithfulness and answers to prayer are crystal clear. There have been beautiful blue skies, white puffy clouds, rain and thunderstorms, and God has been there consistently through all weather and all circumstances. So, here is a summary of the past year (and a little more).
The biggest news came in July 2009: I was married on the 18th to Johnny Galetzka on the Oregon Coast.
In August 2009 I returned to Thailand and continued work with displaced people from Burma. Johnny works for the California Institute of Technology as a field geologist and travels to countries like Nepal, Taiwan, Chile and Peru doing earthquake research.
In September 2009 I helped organize training for relief teams for refugees from the Chin, Kachin and Arakan groups. Johnny joined our team of teachers for the training.
I spent part of October/November 2009 in Nepal with Johnny while he was working. I try to take work with me and do as much email and communication work as possible while traveling. During this time I also prepared the Global Day of Prayer for Burma information guide and reported to donors on how their funds were being used.
Part of December 2009 was spent in Chiang Mai, then I returned to the United States with Johnny for Christmas visits with both of our families and more work on the road! During this month our international staff provided displaced Burmese with medical and other supplies.
January – May 2010: I returned to Thailand and continued work. I often have a lot of meetings, email correspondence and phone calls when I’m in town, but no day is ever the same or boring! I took trips during this time to the US, China, Tibet and Mexico to be with Johnny while he worked. My computer and projects came along with me.
June/July 2010:
Most of these months were spent on a vacation in South Africa and neighboring countries; Johnny has family there. It was a special time to spend together leading up to anniversary #1!! We spent July 18, our ‘one-iversary,’ in Thailand on a bike ride, at church and going to dinner with good friends.
Pepperdine/Malibu Presbyterian Church group visit to Thailand
Prayer requests
Freedom, justice and good leadership in Burma
Wisdom, strength, health and security for relief teams working with Burmese refugees.
Wisdom and guidance from God for Johnny and me in our marriage and for the work each of us does
Healing for friends with cancer in Thailand and Denmark
This past year I have done a lot of traveling with Johnny so that I could see the places where he works and so we could spend time together. We will continue traveling together as much as possible. We have a small rental house in Thailand.
My plan for the future is to continue to work full time coordinating staff and programs that help bring relief to Burma’s displaced people.
I’m deeply thankful for each one of you, your friendship, love, prayers and support.
For more info about my work, see the Christians Concerned for Burma web site.
With love,
Amy (new last name: Galetzka!)
