A letter from Amy Davisson Galetzka serving in Thailand

November–December 2014 -  The Blessing of Working Together

Dear Friends and Family,

At times the world feels insecure, and in many ways there is no certainty, no way to ensure safety or comfort. When I start to feel afraid, unsettled or uncertain, I have a reminder that wherever I am, God is with me.

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go  —Joshua 1:9 (NIV).

I am also reminded by God that the people I am surrounded with---family, friends and co-workers---are a gift and a physical reminder and reassurance of Jesus’ love.

Pray for the people of Burma (Myanmar) as more active conflict has started up again (and continues) in some areas. (These photos are from many years ago but represent the situation of many in Burma who are forced to flee their homes because of attacks against them.) Photo credits: FBR

The Blessing of Working Together:
During 2014 I have been thinking about these amazing people, my local co-workers from Thailand, and I want to share a little about them and the projects that they work on.

They are precious people and I would ask for prayer for them as they work for God in Thailand and the region.
(For more information about each underlined project, please see www.thaichristianfoundation.org.)

Ms. Ben: See my October 2014 newsletter for some more details. This lady makes it possible to get our work done and have a joyful time doing it. She works with extreme integrity and devotion and grace. She was a student in the Bueng Klueng hostel, worked hard to graduate with an accounting degree and then an M.B.A. while working for our Relief project. I pray and hope that we will be able to work together for years to come.

Ms. Mat: She is fun and full of life, takes initiative while also working in a very conscientious and smart way.  She is our Relief Projects bookkeeper, particularly for relief for displaced people in Burma.  She also worked hard to get an education and work experience before coming to work with our foundation in Thailand.

Mr. Kit: He is our Operations manager and will be training in bookkeeping as well. He can really be relied on to figure out and complete every task and project, as well as problem-solve. He has a servant heart and makes sure that people and projects are respected as well as taken care of. Kit also supports the logistics of the Relief project and helps lead groups to Bueng Klueng. His family takes care of the Bueng Klueng children’s hostel and ministry.

Ms. Orathai: Patient care for Lawa/Wa patients and support for the Lawa/Wa projects like the children’s hostel and evangelism projects. (See my April–June 2014 newsletter here https://www.presbyterianmission.org/ministries/missionconnections/davisson-amy-lynne/)

Ms. Lashee: She started working with us in October and has been a blessing and a quiet and stable part of the team already. We are so thankful for her willingness to train and support Ben in the bookkeeping and foundation administration.

Mr. Nathan: He is the newest part of our team and will be working as support for the Health Projects in the role of bookkeeper and assisting with patient care for people we support in local hospitals.

Ms. Subu: She is someone I have known for over 10 years and a great friend. She is the administrator for our Bueng Klueng and Laytongku Ministries. She is persistent in her focus on helping coordinate between the work and those supporting and wanting to understand and build up the ministries. The community health center in Laytongku serves an underserved population and there are plans for the new center to be dedicated in January 2015.

TRAVELING? WANT TO LEARN MORE?
If you are ever interested in visiting Thailand or learning more about our projects or people who support them, please let me know! We can also Skype from the office in Thailand and "show" you around our projects and introduce you to our staff.

Please get in touch with me if you would like to Skype/call/visit in person this coming year. I would love to be in more regular touch and would love to see some of you in Thailand or the region someday!

Please join me in PRAYER:
• As this year comes to an end, in the face of the many struggles of life and the tragedy in the world, I am praying for hope and joy. Praying to see the amazing things God is doing in and through people and to celebrate those each day.  "Hopeful" is the meaning of Nadia’s name and so I think of that word when I look at her.

• For health for me, family and friends—a healthy body, mind and spirit. Thank you to those who have been praying for my mother. At her most recent checkup she was clear of any sign of new lung cancer.  What an amazing answer to prayer and a relief for all of our family and friends.

• For an end to the war and conflict in Burma (Myanmar), replaced by a rich peace and collaboration by the people there, and reconciliation.

 • For Thailand and the political turmoil to be replaced by a productive and ongoing dialogue and working together for each individual in the country and world.

• For Peace, personally, in our family and in the world.

At this time of year I am so thankful for the saving gift of Christ and the gift of my particular life, experiences and relationships.

HAVE A WONDERFUL CHRISTMAS SEASON AND A BLESSED NEW YEAR!

With our love and thanks,
Amy (for Nadia and Johnny too!)

Romans 15:13: May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit (NIV).
