Mark Godwin
Hello!
My name is Mark Godwin, and I will be serving as a YAV in Belfast, Northern Ireland. I am from New Rochelle, New York and have been a member of Larchmont Avenue Church my whole life. This year I graduated from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania. During my four years at Bloomsburg, I played clarinet in the marching band and other musical ensembles. I am a serious history buff, and spend my free time studying the past. Over the summer I worked on a research project in which I analyzed Consular documents from the Ottoman Empire during the 1850s. Currently, I am trying to get my research paper published in an undergraduate journal.
I am really excited about the YAV program. In Belfast I will be serving at two churches, Woodvale Methodist Church and The 174 Trust. I will have several jobs at the churches, including developing a Sunday school, running a senior citizen’s lunch club, assisting with a club for people with various disabilities, and helping to coach a boys soccer group.
By walking with these people in their communities, I will learn their stories. The next year will not be easy, but it will most certainly change my life.
