Mary Sellers Shaw
Originally from Birmingham, Alabama, I graduated from the University of Alabama with a dual degree in Communication Studies and Civic Engagement and minors in Spanish and Creative Writing. During my time at UA, I was active across campus in a variety of service and leadership organizations as well as in our UKirk Presbyterian campus ministry. I had the opportunity to travel on a mission trip to Haiti as well as attend Montreat College Conference each year, serving on the planning team my senior year. It was through Montreat that I first learned about YAV and decided to apply! I love cooking, reading, riding bikes, and-- of course- Alabama football! I'm so thankful to my family, friends, and church communities for supporting me throughout this process, and I can't wait to spend a year serving in Nashville! I am blessed to have the following church communities supporting me this year: Independent Presbyterian Church; First Presbyterian Church, Tuscaloosa; and Presbytery of Sheppards and Lapsley.
